July and August 26
Into July and my work is still popping up at an exhibition or two.
My glass beads, jewellery and bead with embroidery artwork was part of an exhibition with a focus on beadwork at the wonder by name and wonder by nature ‘Art of Wonder’ in Ryde until 31st. I enjoyed a delightful morning on 9th talking about glass bead making and demonstrating simple stringing techniques.
From 17th – 26th July two of my large hoop works (Earth from Space and Earth Close Up) was part of the ‘Look Up – Art for the Offline Mind’ at Peer Studios in Ventnor.
Moving into August from one fringe festival to another, two small embroideries will be making their way to the ‘House of Smalls’ to be in an exhibition titled ‘In Her Hands’. The inspirational woman of history I chose was Dolly Shepherd, an extraordinary daredevil who amongst other things parachuted from a hot air balloon! The exhibition will run from 1st – 31st August in Edinburgh.
Other News
Meanwhile in my workshop and just about anywhere else I can sit for a few minutes I am stitching. I have three longer term projects in various stages of progress at present.
I have completed the second of four large hoops titled ‘Balance – Imbalance- Deterioration- Disintegration’.
The next doesn’t yet have a title but is a depiction of a town of the 1960’s and 1970’s in a time before big out of town supermarkets and online shopping.
Two or three weeks ago I started stitching on balls. With these I hope to convey human relationship with nature, both past and present.
